Bad S. and the Abyss

This publication explore and revisit some myths of sirens in European and Mediterranean literature and folklore – those of Persephone, Scylla, Melusina and Parthenope – with the intention of portraying them not just as terrible and seductive creatures, but as figures to be reinterpreted, which still have much to teach us about the metamorphic uncontrollability of beings.
Their forms remind us of our connections with nonhuman creatures that live in water or in the bowels of the earth. They also help us to take a critical look at the present, examining how the bodies of women in myths can still be used to influence our perceptions of femininity and power.
